Skipping Thanksgiving has become a trend in our economy lately. Halloween decorations are seen in stores but after the candy is gone, Christmas decorations are being thrown up in a flash.
While in college, thinking of the many blessings that have been given to us can seem a waste of time. But truthfully, having thanks for all the precious gifts in life is something that should be expected more often.
This Thanksgiving take a look over this list and evaluate other things you are thankful to have in your life.
The list of thanks could continue endlessly. Everyone tailors things they deem fit to be thankful for. So before skipping over this special holiday and immediately heading towards the Christmas decorations reflect on your many thanks. And just know that your life and all you have been given is of the upmost reason to enjoy the Thanksgiving holidays.
While in college, thinking of the many blessings that have been given to us can seem a waste of time. But truthfully, having thanks for all the precious gifts in life is something that should be expected more often.
This Thanksgiving take a look over this list and evaluate other things you are thankful to have in your life.
- Friends – Taken for granted in times of need, but should truly be appreciated. They aren’t required to be your friend nor are they getting paid to do so. They just care about you. So give thanks to those who have your back.
- Family – A group of people who would do anything for you no matter what it may be. A consistent support system that is always on your side. It may be a bit clique to be thankful for family on thanksgiving, especially if you are surrounded by them at a thanksgiving feast; however, those whom are able to share special times with family are far more fortunate than others without.
- Home – Whether it is a college dorm, apartment or the joy of a house back home – someplace to stay warm, with a roof over your head may not seem like much, but is definitely on the top list of things to be thankful for. Look at your surroundings on Thanksgiving Day and feel honored to have someplace to call “home”.
- Opportunities – Throughout college there are many opportunities that become available. Even our education is valuable and something that in other countries isn’t offered to everyone. Reflect on all those events and activities you have had the privilege and opportunity of experiencing in your life and be thankful for those gifts.
- Transportation – Especially when traveling home for the holidays or just simply commuting places around town, be thankful for the bus, bike, skateboard, car or the pair of legs you use to get from one place to another. These possessions help you in everyday tasks without you realizing how difficult life could be without them.
- Past – We can’t forget all of those we have loved and lost, but most importantly, those who have fought for us, our country and our freedom. So take a moment to be thankful for their service. History, in fact, is what graced us with the Thanksgiving holiday and its celebration. Without hard work in the past, there would be no joy in the future.
- Food – It's a wonderful thing for many college students and very special on Thanksgiving. Something we partake in regularly but never think to wonder how lucky we are to even have a bite to eat or a layer of "Freshman 15" to wear. So be thankful for the nourishment your body intakes and all the energy you have been given.
- Earth – Be thankful for the soil you set your feet on. The beautiful outdoors and wonderful weather too. Enjoy the views that surround you daily and be thankful for the world.
