Freshmen, welcome to Alabama football. Where our grass is greener and our fans scream louder. Where we tailgate harder and dress much nicer. This is the greatest football school in the SEC and we’ve embraced it.
The C&IS Ambassadors encourage you to embrace it too. Here are a few tips every freshman should know about Alabama game days at home:
One tailgate tent you should visit is the College of Communication and Information Sciences tent. It is located right outside of Reese Phifer Hall on the left side of the stadium. You will be greeted with food, drink and an opportunity to make a wide variety of connections. Who doesn’t want to take a free brownie and to shake a few hands?
ROLL TIDE!!!
The C&IS Ambassadors encourage you to embrace it too. Here are a few tips every freshman should know about Alabama game days at home:
- Start early. If the game starts at 2:00 p.m. you should be awake at 11:00 a.m. That’s just the way we roll.
- Dress nicely. We respect our school, and we respect our football program. What we wear shows that. Ladies, game day attire includes dresses, nice shorts or pants and minimal houndstooth. (Trust us on that one.) Gentlemen, nice pants or shorts and a golf shirt or button-down should do the trick.
- Eat a lot. If you don’t, you’ll get tired after the first quarter. There is enough food in Tuscaloosa on game day to feed a small army. Why not partake?
- Talk to strangers. We know your mom told you otherwise. But on game day every Alabama fan speaks the same language. A simple “Roll Tide” could get you shaking hands with Governor Bentley under a white tent at the quad. You never know!
- Never forget your shaker. Just don’t. The game just isn’t the same.
- Know the fight song. Keep the tradition. Every. Student. Should. Know. The. Fight song. There is no other option. Youtube it. Google it. Teach it to your parents. They love it.
- Stay classy. As a student and fan here at the University, you represent this school as much as the football team. (Ok, maybe not, but you get the gist.) Every student should exhibit good behavior and even better sportsmanship.
